Hi! My name is Brittany Cowgill (last name rhymes with mogul). I live in Portland, Maine with my husband, son, daughter, and cockapoo, Rowdy. I practice yoga, love fall and winter, eat a plant-based diet, and am a little bit afraid of heights. I love preparing food but am terrible at following recipes, am obsessed with making lists, and am a total homebody. Some of my favorite things are books, coffee, sunglasses, crossword puzzles, my siblings, camping, magnets, and family picture albums.
about me, more seriously
I graduated from Kenyon College, a small liberal-arts school in Ohio, and taught high school history in Cleveland before returning to school as a graduate student. I have an M.A. and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Cincinnati, and specialize in the history of medicine. I'm currently a faculty member in the history department at the University of New England, teaching various medical history courses. My first book, a history of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is out with Rutgers University Press, and my next book, which looks at the science of pregnancy, is in the works.
